Guinn appoints Dems, not Republicans

by George E. Harris

This should be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Gov. Guinn's task force on tax policy will be controlled by a majority of Democrats. In other words, Gov. Guinn has given the coyotes the keys to the chicken coop. How many times will Republicans make excuses for Guinn?

Maybe Kenny Guinn is allergic to Republicans. I mean, every time he has the opportunity to appoint Republicans to key boards or positions, he just can't bring himself to do it. Gov. Guinn was allowed to pick four of the members of the task force on tax policy (also known as the group Erin Kenny put together to justify raising taxes) and out of the four selections, Guinn could only find one Republican. Oh that's right: Republicans believe in lower taxes. So that's why he picked three Democrats and only one Republican.

So, Republicans can only count on two of the members to protect taxpayers -- Luther Mack and Guy Hobbs. I know both of these men and they will protect taxpayers' interests. I know what you're thinking: that there are three Republicans on the board counting Brian Greenspun But Brian doesn't count because he is just a registered Republican, like Kenny Guinn, and neither of them vote or particularly follow Republican principles.

For those of you who don't know Brian, he was the Republican who held all those fundraisers in his home for "President Bill Clinton" and oh yeah, he also owns the "Democrat Daily News" aka the Las Vegas Sun. So that brings us to just two Republicans on the task force.

One member of the task force that sticks out like the plague, is Left-Winged Extremist Ken Lange, the executive director of the teachers' union which supports tax increases. You might also remember Mr. Lange as the leader of the 2000 effort to enact a 4 percent business profit tax that had the potential to cause massive layoffs and bankrupt thousands of small businesses statewide. Luckily for taxpayers, the Supreme Court of Nevada blocked Lange's leftwing plan to raise taxes.

We can hope for the best, but this task force spells only one thing for Nevada taxpayers...HIGHER TAXES.
